Wilhering Abbey

FYI
Having some time to spare before a stay in Linz, Austria, we decided to visit Mauthausen Concentration Camp to the east and Wilhering Abbey to the west.

Regarding the abbey, wow! We have visited Ettal and Melk, etc. but IMO, nothing compares to the Wilhering Abbey. We drove by the abbey buildings twice, followed the signage that lead us to a almost deserted parking lot for what appeared to be a school. Seeing nothing else in the area, we parked and strolled up a path to a courtyard, found the abbey church in front of us. There was not a single soul around. The door was open and we went in an saw the busiest . . . well, a rococo masterpiece on steroids. White space of the walls and ceiling were just hiccups dividing cherubs, angels, and anyone and anything that color could enhance. This I found to be more interesting than the more famous places like Melk. Well worth a look see.
