Has anyone attended the free summer night Philharmonic Concert at Schönbrunn Palace? We would like to go but unsure how easy it is to navigate given it is a massive event. While it is a public event and free it seems the lawn opens at a set time and is closed when it reaches capacity. Wondering how to best navigate attending this public event and also wondering about using public transport to and after the evening concert back into town.
Any information or insight from those that may have attended in the past would be much appreciated.

Since my visits to Vienna are always in Autumn , I haven't been able to attend the performance ( consoling myself with the broadcast later in summer on PBS ) but as I recall the crowd size is massive , 30 to 50 thousand comes to mind . Thank you for the quick reply. We have reviewed the website and information and have a plan for public transportation however, like you mentioned, it is a large event so things tend to go differently in those situations. Hoping to connect with others that may have attended this large event during a past summer that could offer tips and insights. Thank you all!

I’ve attended and will go in Friday. Get there 2-3 hours before. No chairs or blankets allowed. Lots of standing. I bring a book and sit on the ground. It’s lovely to go but the sound quality is not great. Afterwords it is very orderly and I’ve had no issues with public transportation - I walk right onto the subway. What else?

Thank you Emily. The time waiting around in the lawn before is my main area of concern. Especially given the high temps. Without a picnic being allowed will they sell drinks or snacks? We would be attending as a family so trying to plan for the hours of waiting after we arrive. I am also researching any alternative options of places to maybe watch a live broadcast in town.

There are a few vendors selling basic stuff and the lines are long. Try not to drink too much because Port-a-potties.
