This new station supposedly opened in December 2014, but I can't find any detailed info on its web site (site seems more promotional than useable). According to wikipedia it's "It was expected that the Hauptbahnhof would fully open in December 2014, however delays in completing a footbridge mean it will not be fully operational until December 2015." Since the station's web site has no info, has anyone used this station (I'd be arriving from Prague in early evening and will need to get into the center (innerstadt) fairly quickly). Thanks.

We were in Wien for New Year's -- Hbf was great! Easy transfer to/from S-bahn / U-bahn. Only a few minutes to center. Lots of signs and helpful people. Hope you have a wonderful visit!

We used it yesterday when we left Vienna for Budapest, very easy to use and excellent signage.
The are many Info Points where you can stop and ask questions.
FYI, we rode 2 stops on the Red U-1 line from Karlsplatz which is near the center, Opera stop.

I used it in September and significant parts were still under construction. You won't have trouble getting to the U-Bahn or tram, but you need to check the OEBB website to ensure that your train from Prague actually is calling there.
