We will probably spend a day and a half in Salzburg in early September, and a moderate walk up one of the Salzburg mountains looks like a nice nature break. If one was to do one of these, which one would be best in terms of views, scenic paths, accessibility etc.
We enjoyed both walks but, as I recall, there's an elevator to get you up Monchsberg - not so with Kapuzinberg, you have to hoof it up the hill. From the top of the Monchsberg elevator to the fortress is a nice stroll. Views from the fortress are not to be missed.
Kapuzinerberg was a harder hike than I realized. Of course, it was mid-July and very hot and humid so that might have been a factor. It seemed never-ending, and I never did make it as far as one can go. I stopped eventually for a nice view and a rest and went back down. I had been up the Mönchsberg a few times which is why I decided to try the other. Well, once was enough. I would choose the lift to the Mönchsberg and stroll around (check out some food options) and then come down near the fortress. There are other paths - stairways - that may appeal.
It's been a while but I think the former might fit the bill for more of a nature walk and a better view. But there is a lovely cemetery up on Monchsberg.
