Where to stay in Vienna, help needed !

Hi, We will be in Vienna for three nights in October. I have just started looking for accomadation.🏠
We will be taking public transport to and from the train station, coming from Budapest, so using public transport to travel around Vienna sights.
I am quite overwhelmed, by trying to find a suitable area to stay!

We will be in an apartment as I need a freezer and fridge for medications, we are also "budget" travellers.
We would like to be fairly near the centre ( about 10 mins by transport) so near an underground or tram route.

There are some places around Schonbrunn, one in Ottkrings, one by the Asler Strabe underground, one by the Prater. Leopoldstatdt, so you can see I am confused.🧐

I have been looking at various maps trying to work out distances and transport connections etc, I am very good at this ( usually) having planned several trips to Europe in the last while inc a 3 month trip ending in March, but Vienna has me undecided and "lost"!!

Any advice or pointers or remarks will be welcome.
Thank you.

Thank you, I just looked and it is way too expensive for us. We are using Cdn dollars, which art too good against the Euro !

The €200 a night range seems pretty good for a major city. How much are you hoping to spend?

It looks like the apartment we stayed in is no longer available, but I still have the address of the building. We thought the area was very good and convenient: https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Schwarzspanierstraße+16,+1090+Wien,+Austria/@48.2168023,16.3558098,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x476d07bed7ef48b1:0x9b4e3b9d23992bc9!8m2!3d48.2168023!4d16.3583847!16s%2Fg%2F11c5q7_v2z

The nearest hotel is the Hotel Regina, just to help you pinpoint the area.

Edited to add that I did find these apartments in the area, for 180 Euros per night. https://arrangeyourvacation.com/vacation-rental/10940

If you are looking " by the Prater , in Leopoldstadt " This is my hotel of choice . I've stayed here a half dozen times , always for two weeks each stay , and love the place . , look at the prices and reviews , see if this fits for you. The hotel is a block from Praterstern U Bahn stop ( two lines ) and a ten minute ride into the center https://www.classic-hotelwien.at/ reviews - https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g190454-d257204-Reviews-Austria_Classic_Hotel_Wien-Vienna.html Prices look about EU 150 / night , including a lovely breakfast in October ( that's , when I visit Vienna )

Check out the Adina Hotel. It's one block from the Vienna Rail station and next to the "D" tram that takes you to the center of Vienna in about 10 minutes.

Each room has a full kitchen and a small washer/dryer. I stayed there for two weeks a couple of weeks ago.

There are two supermarkets in the lower level of the station.

This apartment matches all your requirements (for two adults only):

Friends and relations of mine stayed there already several times, and they liked it very much. The apartment is equipped with everything you might need, public transport is available just at the corner of the building, and the host provides you with all information about the city, cultural events, museums, restaurants, etc.

My suggestion--go to booking.com and do searches based on your parameters (and be sure to click the option to show ONLY available options.) Then when something looks promising, start by looking at where it is on the map, then study the pictures, reviews and read the "fine print."

Generally speaking, you want to stay in the city center if you can or within walking distance. If you are going to be outside, then just take the address of the accommodations, put in Google Maps and have Google Maps give you transit directions to a some places you want to visit--from the resulting directions you'll see right away how close it is to public transport and what the steps would be to get somewhere.

A quick search on AirBnB was showing any number of apartments available that meet your parameters. Always select Superhosts. Under $400 USD for the 3 nights (before taxes).
