Where to stay in Tirol

My wife and are planning to spend 3-4 days in the Tirol area during mid-June after the Dolomites before we head up to Munich to fly home. We'd like to find a medium-small village to stay: not so big that it's overly busy and touristy but not so small that there's limited food and accommodations options. We're still trying to gauge what's realistic to do in our time frame; whether we stay in an ideal valley (e.g. Stubai or Zillertal) and just focus on hiking locally or if we want to find a central location (e.g. Reutte or Seefeld) that will allow us to access few different locations.

Other details:
- We're not planning to rent a car after the Dolomites but if it seems to be a major benefit, we would consider it.
- We'll be doing a ton of hiking in the Dolomites so we're open to other activities but currently planning to focus on hiking or other alpine activities.
- We're also open to traversing the boarder into Bavaria.
- A complete different option would be finding a lake village location outside of Salzberg similar to Hallstatt (though that sounds to be overly busy). We would take any recommendations in that regards as well.
- Any other helpful tips or insights would be appreciated!

Thank you!

My picks would be Mittenwald in Germany or St. Gilgen in Austria.

Pertisau, Achensee. Unfortunately getting more touristic and expensive by the minute. Small hotels have remodeled into resort hotels. Plenty of holiday apartments though. You are right next to the Naturpark Karwendel. Several lifts in the area into the mountains. You can bike and boat. You’ll need a taxi or bus the last kilometers. You can get into the Zillertal too.

In the Tirol, I love Söll in Wilder Kaiser. There's fantastic infrastructure for hikers (no car needed), lots to do both in the mountains and the valley villages, and a great array of hotels. It's also easy to pop over to Kufstein on a rainy day to explore the fortress and the town. I've stayed at the Hotel Greil 3 times now and always look forward to my next trip! https://www.hotelgreil.com/en/ The connection to Munich is ridiculously easy. So easy that I always come here directly from the Munich airport: it's about 1.5 hours from the airport to Kufstein and from there you can get a taxi or a bus or many hotels will do pick ups.

But I also love St Gilgen and exploring the area around Wolfgangsee. I was there last October (staying at the Hotel Hollweger for the second time) and it's so beautiful. The bus connections from St Gilgen are very good and I've never had any trouble exploring without a car while there.

Whatever you chose, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic trip!
