Where to stay in Salzburg and Berchtegaden

Spending just a couple of days in the area in early September. Any advice on where to stay?

If you can get reservations try Gasthof Auzinger in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden. Family run and good food here as I first heard of it on German TV for the food (order before 19:30). I stayed here this May for a few days. Breakfast is modest traditional. They use the water from the mountain stream behind the Gasthof out of the Nationalpark for the coffee. Nice rooms some recently renovated. If you can stay on a Wednesday night there is live traditional Bayrisch music. I usually drive, but it looks like bus 846 will get you there from the ZOB/Hauptbahnhof, Berchtesgaden (@25 min). You can also see Malerwinkel in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden along the way.

Never stayed at these places on the Obersalzberg, but after poking around on the net a few weeks ago researching Hitler's Tea House ruins I came across these:

I've stayed at the Hotel Garni Hanauerlehen in Schönau am Königssee a few times over the years. It's been remodeled too. More of a Family hotel. Fantastic views on a good day of the Watzmann and within walking distance of the Königssee and local restaurants. https://www.hotel-hanauerlehen.de/

I stayed at Anfanglehen at Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden and really enjoyed it. Family farm whose farmhouse has been converted into a guest house. Owner speaks zero English, so you need to be able to speak basic German to stay there.

When in Salzburg last April, our family stayed at Pension Katrin. Sandra was a great hostess! We enjoyed a lovely breakfast every morning, and even had special homemade Easter treats. We stayed in the junior suite, which was great for the 4 of us. Location of the hotel was fantastic--2 minutes to the bus stop, 5 minutes to a grocery, and 15-20 minutes from the historic town center.

I suggest Flockner B & B. It has been opened only about one year so everything is new. The owner, Martin, is great and extremely helpful. Good value for your money. Close to the main train station/bus station on the backside. Breakfast was very good with eggs cooked to order.
