Where to eat lunch in 7th District in Vienna on our arrival day?

We have an early arrival into Vienna and will be leaving our luggage in our hotel in the 7th District while we wander around until check-in. I'm sure we'll be hungry and in need of coffee. Any restaurant recommendations in that neighborhood for a casual lunch? Do we need to worry about making a lunch reservation?
Thanks,
Laurie

Well, you have found yourself in probably the best area of the city for a casual lunch. That said, you can get just about everywhere (including the city center) in the city from there in about 15 minutes, so no need to feel like you need to stay in that area. Vienna is a compact city with great transportation.

In Neubau (7th District), you are spoiled for choice. This district is best known for its major shopping street - Mariahilferstrasse. Neubaugasse is also a great street for boutique shopping. Please also wander around the Spittelberg area (Spittelberggasse, Gutenberggasse and Schrankgasse) - these are streets with galleries that will show you the way Vienna used to look - absolutely charming.

Now for the restaurants - I love Amerlingbeisl and Ulrich. Highly recommend. I'd probably do a reservation just to be sure. GlacisBeisl is also a favorite as is Brilli Restaurant (a Filipino restaurant, the flowers, the terraces). For a classic coffeehouse (just outside of Neubau), it is hard to beat Sperl (best Apfelstrudel). Best ice cream is Gelateria La Romana (get the Sachertorte flavor and thank me later).

Great! Thank you! I have copied these into my itinerary and will check them out.
