What to pack for Vienna, Salzburg and St Wolfgang

We are traveling to the above cities from Sept 25 to Oct 4. I realize the weather can be rainy and change from mild to chilly. I am having difficulty on what to pack and am trying to really go light. I am packing a light rain coat. I assume pants will be fine with short sleeve tops and sweaters over for layering? Any chance I would need a skirt or shorts during the day with the temps? Thanks in advance.
Yours truly,
An impaired packer.

September has been unseasonably cold, like 10C & lower recently, with loads & loads of rain so layers definitely a must though today we actually saw sun & 20C by afternoon. Haven't worn our shorts yet though. We were surprised at very casual dress everywhere in Salzburg, even at concerts. Btw, the fortress Mozart ensemble concert was very enjoyable. The older gentleman playing the cello was a joy to watch.

As you're heading to St Wolfgang, if you have a car check out Gosausee just before Hallstatt. All I can say is WOW, what a view!

Layer and no need for a skirt or shorts. Jeans, slacks and two pairs of comfortable walking shoes. One pair of shoes may get wet, so an extra pair will be needed. One pair of sneakers is fine. I would bring some long sleeve tops and one or two sweaters to layer. Your in the north so it is cooler and rainy. Rain coat with a hood is a good idea. A scarf would be a good idea and an umbrella. It really is fine to go casual.

Have a great time. I loved Vienna and Salzburg!

Thank you both for the tips! I will pack accordingly and hope the rain slows down a bit.
We are renting a car when we leave Salzburg so will have to check out Gosausee and the Mozart concert.
