Going on Rick Steves GAS tour Sept 6 and will have a free afternoon and evening in Salzburg on 9/15. Do we go on the Sound of Music tour or does that overlap with what's on our tour? Do you recommend either the Mirabell Palace dinner/concert or the Hohensalzburg Fortress dinner/concert. Thanks

I was on the GAS tour years ago so things may have changed but Sound of Music sites were NOT included at that point in time except for anything you'd see walking around town (Do-Re-mi locations). I think we had a Mozart dinner concert included one night so you may want to check with RS tours has an inkling whether the guide is throwing in any extra events while you're in town. I enjoyed the walking trails above town with views of the 'backside' toward the mountains. Went to the Mirabell concert but did not do the dinner. If I was there again I would do the SOM tour; I hear it's fun. No matter what you decide, your choice will not be wrong or time wasted I think you'll enjoy.

We too will be on the GAS tour in sept 20th and was wondering if we had enough time for the Sound of music tour. I took it several years ago and it was most of the day. I wonder if they have shorter ones? They drive into the countryside. We have friends traveling with us and they want to take it.

Spend the afternoon going up to the fortress and walking the trail back down. Perhaps a walk and quiet dinner in the old town section. TC
