Many times RS lists hotels in his book but stays in others. Has anyone recently stayed in one of his tour hotels. We are taking the train from Vienna to Budapest so perhaps staying in a hotel with easy access to the train station but not mandatory. A hotel in Budapest would be helpful as well.
William, here are my suggestions for Budapest hotels. I think these are among the best located in town.

Which you choose depends on style you want, budget, maybe time of year.
If you can provide your dates and budget, I will do a quick search to see what is available and make some recommendations. With such good transportation in Vienna, it is absolutely unnecessary to stay near the train station, which is a soulless part of town.
The ones listed in the book are the ones useful for independent travelers. The RS tours need rooms for 25+ people so some of the smaller ones may not work.
We were on a RS tour in August of this year. The hotel he used in Vienna was Hotel Kaiserhof Wien. Very nice hotel with great service.
I just got back from both Vienna and Budapest and I stayed at Hotel Astoria in Vienna and Hotel Zenit Palace in Budapest. Both hotels are a quick subway ride from the train stations and the locations of both were perfect for exploring the cities.
