Westbahn train Salzburg to innsbruck

Hello,
Anyone have experience with this train company? I appreciate any feedback you might have..
Thanks.

No complaints. All train companies in Austria have the same level of comfort (with slight differences because of different types of cars). Seat reservations do exist only for long-distance express trains.

A few days after a big snow storm in Dec 2023, Westbahn trains were running, DB trains were not. I like Westbahn.

We take Westbahn all the time as do thousands of people every week. Double decker trains that are clean and comfortable.

OBB is the "official" national rail carrier, Westbahn is an independent company. They run on the same tracks, however they can use different train stations so watch out for that. For your trip it should be fine.

Tickets are not interchangeable between the two companies, and Westbahn does not (or didn't) accept the Eurailpass.

It's such a short trip of two hours that none of this should really matter.

The Eurailpass is an expensive remnant of the times (decades ago) when booking train tickets for international connections needed a specialist. Nowadays with booking via the Internet paying a premium price for a slight simplification makes no sense.

Unfortunately booking tickets for international connections still needs a specialist in many cases.

An Eurail Pass can be usefull. I just got myself a 4 day in a month Interrail pass, because I am going to Belgium next week, and it was cheaper than a return ticket on DB. So even if I use the other 2 days just for short hops in Belgium I still saved money...

I wasn't advocating for the Eurailpass, it's just possible that the OP might be using one. It's so engrained in travel memory that many folks still think it's a must-have. Just like some folks until fairly recently were asking about (gasp) travelers checks.

Interrail, on the other hand, is very popular with train vloggers so there must be value in it.

If you book do not print tickets until the day before the trip.
If you do and for some reason have to cancel they are non-refundable.
I lost 1000. EUR, because my son was diagnosed with cancer and I had to cancel the trip.
Even though I had insurance and refundable tickets. They would not refund because I had printed ahead of time.
