Weiner Stataatsoper TOSCA Opera

Visiting Vienna for first time in October and have never been to an Opera, would you reccommend it we love music of all kinds

I did some research, reviewing all those on offer and Tosca is the winner. Glorious spectacle. We've bought our tickets.

If you have never been to an opera before, you might enjoy the Barber of Seville or Carmen more, if those dates work for you.

I love Tosca, but I agree that to a first-time opera patron, Carmen or The Barber of Seville might be more fun for you. That said, it depends on what you are looking for. Carmen is vibrant and entertaining, and you will probably recognize some of the music. Tosca, on the other hand, is much darker and there is a lot of emotional drama. The Barber of Seville is a comedy, which you might enjoy.

Regardless, whatever you choose, I would highly recommend listening to a recording it before you go and reading up on the story of ahead of time. You will enjoy the performance much more (imo) if you already have some knowledge of the music and the story.

In fact, it wouldn't hurt to make your decision after you have some knowledge of the story (and maybe have listened to some of the music.
