We were told Yes, then No

We are currently in Vienna and have reservations in Graz for tomorrow. It was my understanding that we could travel from Vienna to Graz using the Einfach-Raus-Ticket.
We were told at the Wien Hbf that that was incorrect; we would have to purchase a different kind of ticket.
Perhaps I completely misunderstood the E-R-cards use.
What have I missed in hoping to be able to travel from Vienna-Graz for 33e? Perhaps my miserly train of thought.
Once again, we have reservations in Graz tomorrow and will purchase what we must.
Thank you, once again.

Looking at the schedule all of the trains to Graz are RailJet & one EC - except the 22:59 which is a REX & S which would allow the E-R ticket.

So yes you could use it but only on 1 train which takes 8 or 9 hrs for a 2:35 trip.

Fortunately the tickets are not that expensive Euro 24,00

Maybe you can find a routing that is all on regional trains, but at a reasonable time of day?

I took this as a learning opportunity, as we will be in Vienna for a week in September and may well want to use an Einfach Raus ticket for daytrips.

So, following Sasha's suggestion, I used Bahn.de to find a route using only regional trains. Bahn.de is very user-friendly ( I haven't tried OeBB yet but will have to learn!). I selected for "local transport only" and cameup with several options, all with 2-3 changes and taking 4 1/2 hours or more. For example, one option changes trains in Wiener Neustadt and Fehring.

Because of the extra time and hangers involved, this is only worth doing if you already have the Einfach Raus ticket. If ot, I would just pay the extra for two tickets on the faster (and direct) Railjet train.

Einfach Raus tickets can only be used on regional trains. The journey from Vienna to Graz is not served by regional trains as the distance is too far. You need to take a long distance train which requires point to point tickets.

Thank you, everyone.
We did purchase from OeBB. For one way (two people) the tickets were 74,50 euros.

According to OeBB, there is repair work going on on the tracks due to an accident. Express trains don't seem to be affected, but there might be some cancellation of regional trains.

Sorry to say, but this is a rip-off. I just checked and there are "Sparschiene" (online bargain) tickets still available for € 24 per person. These extra cheap tickets are not available at the ticket counters, only via the Internet.

Lee, there was an accident last week on tracks in Vienna. The repairs are a result and definitely do not affect long distance trains.
