We are a traveling party of six looking to stay in Graz this summer. Any advice on safety, best area to stay etc? Are the Eggenberg or St Peter areas safe?anyone stayed near Leibnitz outside of Graz? We have thought about renting a car also and wondering if this is a good idea so we can be on our own schedule/flexibility but also unsure about driving there.
Please any advice helpful. Thank you.
It depends on your plans. A few days exploring the city, or a base for exploring an extended area of Steiermark?
We are actually going to the F1 race but plan to explore Graz at least one or two days. The wine country also looks lovely just south of Graz so did not want to rule out that as an option if better place to stay as “base camp” for four days in that area.
The most dangerous thing that could happen to you in Graz is that you twist your ankle on a cobblestone. Everywhere is safe. Like more than safe. As in you leave your purse on a bench and someone will run after you to return it safe.
Be more concerned about value and parking.
Thank you! Any recommendations for eating while there?

From what I have seen and experienced over the years in Austrian towns and cities (it's not much), ie, limited to Salzburg, Linz, Wiener Neustadt, Wagram, Graz and Vienna, the safety factor is not a factor at all, basically, doesn't count. Different pattern of socialization.
