Hi will be in salzburg overnite coming in by train and want to make efficient use of time ...i would like accomodations walkable to train station and old town...nothing too fancy or expensive

Purchase RSs Vienna, Salzburg guide book and take his self-guided walking tour. He’ll also tell you how to get to the starting point from the train station along with lots of other good advice. You can download an electronic copy from his app.

Not fancy or expensive - Pension Jahn. Just a couple of blocks from the station and an easy walk to old town.
