Wachau Valley in winter?

We will be in Vienna the first week of December. If we have a free day, I was wondering on the prospect of visiting the Wachau Valley. Is it worth the trip? What is there to do in the off season? Are places open or closed?

Lots of questions.

Thanks

I looked to go in March a few years ago, and gave up as the boats weren't running regularly then. I'm guessing that's off- season.
Safe travels!

You could visit the famous abbey in Melk, the medieval town of Dürnstein, walk up to the ruins of the fortress where King Lionheart was incarcerated, or stroll through the old town of Krems with its art mile. It is weather dependent, though.
