Wachau Ticket validity

I have a question about the combined Wachau Ticket that you can buy from OEBB, that covers the train to Melk, the cruise to Krems and the train back from Krems.

OEBB states "The Wachau-Ticket is valid within 2 calendar days for one return journey (36 hours from the start of the journey)".

Does anyone know if this means that you must use the ticket within 2 days of purchase [like if you buy your ticket on Monday morning then you have to use it on the Monday or the Tuesday] or that it's valid for 2 calendar days from whenever you choose to use it [so you could theoretically buy it on Monday but then use it on the Friday]?

Sorry if this is confusing; I hope it makes sense! Any clarification on this is greatly appreciated.

I agree that this is confusing; to understand this I had to call OeBB's customer service whose agents don't have the best command of English language.

The ticket has a validity of two calendar days (not an arbitrary 48 hours time frame), starting from the moment you buy it, i.e., it is valid on the day of purchase and the following day. Departure from and arrival in Vienna must be within those two days, and the duration of the whole trip must not exceed 36 hours.

E.g., you may start at 8am, go to Melk, visit the abbey, take the first boat to Dürnstein, stay there over night, take the first boat to Krems, visit the town and its Art Mile, go back to Vienna, but must arrive before 8pm.
