Wachau in March

We will be in Vienna next month and I'd like to do an overnight in the Wachau Valley. Unfortunately the boats won't be running yet and it looks like most hotels in Durnstein, where I was aiming to stay, are also closed until April. Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to stay off-season? I'd hate not to be able to see the valley at all. It seems to me that we could still appreciate the drive along the Danube and stopping off at a few vistas and castles, and, of course, Melk. Thanks for any advice.

It's possible to get a bus along the valley between Krems and Melk even if the boats aren't running, which makes a good day trip from Vienna. The weather might be a bit grey and misty in March if you're unlucky.
