Vorteilscard without the actual card?

Hello,

Is it allowed to travel on a Vorteilscard discount without having a physical customer card? Will the inspector allow it if I just show them the invoice?

I didn't realize it required receiving a physical card in the mail and assumed it would just come up in the app. Its too late now and I'm travelling from Budapest, so there's no OBB office I can go into and pick one up either.

Thanks for the help

You need a QR code. Is there a QR code on your invoice?

Curious, what Vorteilscard did you buy?

I didn't purchase it yet because I saw the line below in bold, and also, before purchasing, it suggested that they would send the card to the address that I provide, so I didn't pull the trigger. I think it would be the Vorteilscard 66 that I'm supposed to purchase. So it should be fine to go ahead and get on a train with just the QR code?

Our online product for everyone with no age limit. For € 66.- a year,
the Vorteilscard Card 66 entitles you to discounted travel by train.
There are no other eligibility requirements for the card, and it is
only available online from tickets.oebb.at and through the mobile ÖBB
app under “Additional offers”. To purchase the card you will require
an ÖBB Customer Card.

To purchase the card you will require an ÖBB Customer Card.

That is a erroneous translation from the German version of that Internet page. It should read that you need an online account with OeBB, e.g. for storing your personal data, your Vorteilscard, and the tickets you purchase.

Are you sure the vorteilskarte is saving you money? What journeys do you have?

I suppose "saved me a chunk of money" was a strange thing to say, but the discount was about 50 Euros and I have at least 4 other long journeys this winter. I assume I'll make up at least 16 Euros in the end, so its nice knowing I have the card already paid for.

For short term travel, it is usually more economical to purchase SparSchiene tickets.
