Reading through the responses to another question on this forum, I saw that this venue was highly recommended. I am not at all familiar with the performance available there in early June when our family will be visiting. Can anyone recommend (or not) the performance of Gasparone? Where else might I find good musical entertainment early in June? I don't really want to spend the kind of money Opera House tickets would cost to view a ballet there; standing room is not an option because one member or our family cannot stand for long periods of time.
Thanks!
If you don't regularly attend live opera or ballet, I don't see it as essential to do this. (We went when we were in Vienna, but got to see a regular warhorse opera, I forget which one.) It's not a matter of quality, or attractiveness of the auditorium. It's a matter of money and time, while on a vacation. Many regional opera houses have affordable tourist building tours.
Although the operetta (not opera) you named has the virtue of having premiered in Vienna, I plead ignorance. But I would guess it has never (?) been done (outside of music schools) in the U.S.
This is a Viennese operetta by Carl Millocker , a contemporary of Johann Strauss II , the better known composer of operettas like " Die Fledermaus : and " Der Zigeunerbaron " . It is a classic example of late nineteenth century operetta with light , pretty music and and a comedic plot , This will make for an enjoyable evening and the theater is lovely as well . You can also expect a first rate performance , here is the story - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasparone and listen to some of it here - https://youtu.be/IuujLyAdwjs
thank you so much!
