Vienna: With a rental car, stay inside or outside the city?

As part of our driving tour around Austria and Hungary next spring, we are planning on spending several days in Vienna. We've been there several times before, but never with a rental car. We certainly wouldn't need to use the car while there since public transportation is so good, so long-term parking is a concern. We are debating possibly staying in a smaller town outside Vienna to avoid the hassle of driving and parking in the city, and this could also potentially give easier access to biking routes along the Donau. We are wondering which is the best approach to take. Any recommendations or suggestions from anyone? Thanks! KateN.

Just bite the bullet and park the car at the hotel.I would get a hotel in the 1st so that you are centrally located,I have stayed in the 1st,4th and 7th the Museums Quarter.

The best approach is to park your car at one of the Park and Ride garages on the outskirts and then stay in a central hotel.

These garages are all on subway lines and are very cheap and safe.

Driving into the center is very challenging due to one way street, streetcars, carriages, etc. I don't recommend that option.

Thanks for the excellent tips! This is the first time I've used this forum, and it's a great resource.
