Hello All:
Any suggestions for the nicest/prettiest parks for walking at Christmas time in Vienna? Obviously they would all be nicer in Summer. Thanks in advance.

Apparently no one thinks you should take long winter walks in Vienna. You might look for an alternate destination.
Gerry...they all are well, you know, a little dank in winter. That being said go to the Stadtpark off the Ring for a walk. I think you are staying at Beatrix's apartments so you can also walk up to Augarten Park. Schonbrunn is also worthwhile. Take a walk around the Ring itself and take in the nicely lighted area around the Rathausplatz market (touristy, but the light sre nice...stop in nearby at the Cafe Einstein for a beer or food). Stroll around all of the backstreets of the center and go in for food or whatever when a warm place beckons. Go out to the Wienerwald and walk back into Nussdorf...you'll love it all!
James...go and have some more Egri Bikavar. (;-)
The Stadtpark immediately comes to mind , perhaps an overcast afternoon in light snow . The haunting short story " Blumen " ( Flowers ) by Arthur Schnitzler will set the mood .https://archive.org/details/cu31924026341788
My intent was to move him to the top in hopes of getting him an answer. Mission successful.
Dank? Naaaaaa, Okay, I will try and be productive.
You can always walk along the embankment, day or night; winter or summer, its always enjoyable

or this time of year a walk up street is nice

But you did say park? http://www.offtoeurope.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/city-park-budapest.jpg
But most folks go to the park to ice skate this time of the year

Or interestingly enough, to sit in outdoor pools

Ohhhh, wait, sorry…….wrong town ---- my bad.
Guess I should go back to my bottle of Egri Bikavérs
Personally, I try to stay indoors from November - March, but if you insist...
The most obvious pick would be the Prater, which offers a combination of paved alleyways as well as many, many paths through the woods. Avoid the amusement park area as it is creepy in the winter. It is very easy to reach the Prater on public transportation. Specifically, I would hop on to the Stadtwanderweg #9. Stadtwanderwegs, literally city walking path, are well marked trails around the city for enjoying nature. Here is a link with a map.
Next pick for me would be the Stadtpark as you can make a nice loop in about 20 minutes. No map required.
The Augarten is also worth a look.
The rest of the notable parks in the city are so small that you could walk across then in a couple of minutes.
Hello All:
Thanks James for the bump. A deluge after the drought! And I got some good laughs when I opened the thread this morning.
As Alex noted I am staying with Beatrix so I will be doing the Augarten. I had not thought about the Stadtpark. Thanks Steven for the story link. And Emily I can understand your feelings about Winter in Europe and staying inside! Thanks for the #9 tip.
Now it will just be a matter of me getting out of the apartment and away from the cookies.
Thanks to all,
Gerry
Try a walk in from the apartments to city center, great exercise and you'll see a part of Vienna most don't. Take the D tram out to Nussdorf and walk up to Grinzing and Sievering (Don't bother with eating or drinking in Grinzing too tourisy, but still worth strolling).
Are there any Heurigers out in that area that you like. Will be my first experience in one.
Gerry
The Schubert Auer in Nussdorf is good. Emily and I have some other recs in the Hotel and Restaurant review section as well.
