Vienna Wine Walk

I highly recommend doing this in Vienna. I did it the last weekend of September. The privately-owned vineyards in the hills surrounding Vienna are only open to the public one weekend a year. You are on concrete walkways the entire path which is about 10 miles long. But there are certain stopping points along the way, and you don't have to do the whole route. Every 1/2 mile or mile along the route there is a area where wineries have set up tents, tables etc to sample different wines and as well as various foods and deserts. Thousands of locals do it. If you make it to at least three of the official stopping points along the route, you get a pin indicating that you did the walk. There are trams and buses which go from the center of town to many of the various starting points.
It's one big party for a couple or family.

OMG!!! I've recently posted a question in "General Europe", asking for suggestions for our trip next September. This sounds exactly like something we would enjoy doing. Guess I'll revise what we have so far and add Vienna. We've never been there and have talked about going.

How would I go about finding out the dates for next year?

It is pretty easy to recreate this experience minus the pins pretty much any weekend. There are many trails in the hills of Vienna which are well marked and traverse the vineyards with many places to stop, eat and drink wine. Stammersdorf is the base of many; also I like to go up to Kahlenberg and hike down the 1a trail to Nussdorf. Happy to give more detail if interested.
