Vienna - Which Location?

We have been to Vienna once for only 3 nights, 10 years ago. In November we are going back for a week. We like to stay in apartments, especially for longer stays and I was hoping for some guidance regarding locations. I’m looking at one near the Museums Quarter and metro U2 & U3, and one that is very close to the Belvedere and Tram D station. Which location would be better for proximity to the sights and transportation? Being more walkable to things is a bonus. I’m also considering one near the Naschmarkt. How is that location? I would also appreciate any other recommendations. We will be there from November 9-16 and are looking for a one bedroom with kitchenette, washer, wifi and free cancellation. I would like to keep the budget to around 1000€ for the entire stay. A little more would be okay.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Andrea, I'm a Vienna novice but I bookmarked the following thread in anticipation of a week in Vienna this September. Emily as usual provided a very thorough summary of all the neighbourhoods. Hope this helps: Vienna best neighborhoods. If not, I'm sure the Vienna contingent can provide some good updated ideas.

My memory of the Naschmarkt area is that it's fairly far west from the traditional downtown area and the Ring road, if that matters

As I mentioned previously in another post, this is an apartment for two where family of mine and friends stayed already several times: https://airbnb.com/h/vienna-best
After having read the reviews you will agree that the name is well deserved.
I do not know anything about the cancellation rules, though.

wmt, I saw your recommendation on another post and checked it out. The cancellation policy is for 24 hours from booking. In other words not really a cancellation policy. Otherwise it looks great. Thanks for mentioning it.

Adina Hotels has two apartment hotel properties in Vienna. Full kitchen, W/D, A/C and full hotel services.

I just completed my sixth stay at the location near Belvedere.

Adina Hotel Belvedere

There is also another location just north of the ring road.

A by Adina I've never been to this location.

They also have serviced apartments near the Beledere location which is not far from Belvedere and close to the train station. Also near the D tram.

Adina Serviced Apartments

Receptionists at the hotel take turns working at the serviced apartments.

We are currently staying 14 nights at the Adina Belvedere in a studio. The D tram is right outside and takes approximately 10 min to get to Ringstrasse (tourist hub, old town). We have also skipped the tram and walked many times. Takes us about 35 to 40 minutes. The small kitchen we have in our studio is not suitable for cooking in my opinion. It has a fridge to keep snacks/drinks. It has a W/D which has been great! There is also not many restaurants around the area (train station is across the street and has lots of fast food type options). We like where we are staying. It is safe and quiet and works for us for a long stay. So if you want walkable and lots of restaurants stay in the old town, but it costs more!

If I may just counter....as I've stated, I recently had my sixth stay at the Adina Belvedere. My stays are are anywhere from 1-2 weeks.

There are three supermarkets within five minutes of the hotel.

Two are in the train station. The Spar is huge, There is also a Hofer (sister company to Aldi and basically the same.) in the office complex across the street.

I cook every day while there. The kitchen is small but definitely usable. Two burner stovetop (hob) and a combination microwave/convection oven. They supply the soap tablets for the dishwasher and combination washer/dryer. There is a kettle and coffee maker. It's a Cremesso capsule machine. They supply the capsules but if you want a larger selection, you can find them in the larger Spar supermarket in the lower level of the train station. Pots, pans, dishes, mugs, glasses and a toaster. Utensils but lacking in sharp knives for cooking. (Usually one larger bread knife and a smaller utility knife.)

You're not going to cook a roast or three course meal. But something simple is easy.

We stayed 4 nights at the Adina Serviced Apartments last month and liked it a lot. You can see my recent review in Google Maps.

There is no washer in the unit, but I believe that there are washers and dryers in the hotel which can be booked by an app.

We bought the 7 day transit pass and took the trams all over the city. The train station is a 2 minute walk away. There is a Hofer supermarket less than a block away. The Belvedere is also nearby.

Greetings from Vienna. Your dates coincide with the opening of many Christmas Markets - hopefully a bonus.

For the MuseumsQuartier/U2/U3 location, can you be more specific?

The area around Belvedere's Tram D stop is very good as it is near a posher area of the 4th District with several Embassies. Obviously, the Tram D line is right there which takes you to the Ring in a couple of quick stops. Otherwise, it is also very walkable to the center.

Near the Naschmarkt could be many things. That said, that area is lively and also very close to the center, with nearby highlights such as the Secession Building, Majolikahaus and the great shopping/eating street of Schleifmühlgasse.

I just had a look at AirBnb with your dates and criteria. Focus on places in Neubau, Wieden, Mariahilf, Landstrasse (but close to the Ring), Leopoldstadt (only between Augarten and the canal), and Josefstadt. There are many good options that are Guest Favorites with a huge number of positive reviews.

Thank you all!

Emily, I so appreciate you commenting on the specific neighborhoods. It helps a lot. The address for the place near MuseumsQuartier is Fassziehergasse 7, 07. Neubau. I had already booked it before I made this post, but I’m not crazy about the cancellation policy because I would have to cancel one month before arrival. I prefer a policy closer to the arrival date. While I don’t anticipate anything happening one can never know.

I hope you have realized that your apartment is in an excellent location. Trendy, lots of good restaurants and shops. There is a reason why rental prices in this area are among the highest in the city. Of course, you have the museums at your doorstep, Spittelberg is around the corner and the city center is a lovely stroll away.

Ulrich and Erich are great nearby restaurants as is Amerlingbeisl and Glacis Beisl.

Emily, thank you for confirming that the location is good. I’m still going to try to find something in that area with a more favorable cancellation policy.

Andrea--We are arriving the day after you leave and I have been searching for apartments as well. I looked at the one you booked and we liked it, so I just booked it, lol. We opted for the one month cancellation option, which should work for us.

Emily--I have been following your suggestions on the various areas to stay which has been an enormous help. Thank you!!!

That’s great mikliz97! I really like the apartment. I’ve had a few times when I had to change plans unexpectedly at short notice for reasons out of my control so having to cancel no later than a month before staying there makes me nervous. I’m not canceling unless I have something just as good with a better cancellation policy.

Andrea--I did like that they they had several options (nonrefundable, 30 days out and last minute), but of course I didn't want to pay the rate foe the last minute option so I went in the middle. It looks great, and with Emily's comments about it, we shall see. It's so funny though that we arrive the day after you leave:)
