We will be in Vienna for our 21st wedding anniversary, and I am looking for an option for dinner.
Doesn't have to be a Michelin Star spot, but something that can offer a special, authentic experience, without breaking the bank.

This is a Michelin Three Star experience, together with Amador it is the highest rated restaurant in Vienna, probably of whole Austria. We are talking here of about €500 per person.

All three are excellent, but your hotel is in an area which is full of other restaurants of all kinds.

I guess I should have mentioned that the dress code needs to be casual, as I will not be packing a proper suit jacket.
I can think of no restaurant in Vienna that has a dress code.
I wasn't speaking of a true enforced dress code per se, but something more upscale where there are possible expectations of dresswear.
That’s just not a thing in Vienna. Anyone under 70 will be very casual.

Since you are staying at the Altstadt Vienna, the perfect choice for your 21st wedding anniversary is Zu ebener Erde und erster Stock.It is located right in the historic Spittelberg quarter. While Steirereck is iconic, it holds 2 Michelin stars and comes with a very high price tag and a formal atmosphere. In contrast, this charming Biedermeier-style restaurant offers excellent, authentic Viennese cuisine (like legendary Tafelspitz and classic Schnitzel) in a romantic, intimate setting without breaking the bank. For a special evening, be sure to book in advance and ask for a table on the "first floor" (erster Stock), which has a more refined ambiance.
