Vienna Trip for 7 nights

Hi!

We are a couple and are planning to travel to Austria this coming August. Can you please suggest the best way to plan sight visiting and activities during this trip?

We love scenery and also fun activities.

Thanks!

I always start with a good guidebook (check out Rick Steves Vienna, Salzburg and Tirol book). From there I look into places on the internet and just see where the search takes me. I usually select the main sights I want to visit, but leave time for simply exploring the city.

Agree strongly with reading through a good guidebook ahead of time!

My method is to plan one "big" thing per day like a major museum, and then use the rest of the day to explore the nearby area and perhaps check out smaller sights. Trying to do too much is an easy way to burn out.

I agree with reading through a good guide ahead of time, too! I supplement the guide books by perusing Trip Advisor and by using the search bar at the top of this page to find previous posts in the travel forum related to my destination/topic of interest.

The cornerstones for planning a trip are:
Location of arrival/departure
Duration of the trip

Most tourists make the mistake of trying to pack too much into a too short timeframe.

If you love art and museums, Vienna is heavenly. Otherwise, you might want to spend less time there and focus on other destinations.

The scenery is lovely, but it is not the equal of the mountains around Salzburg and Bavaria.

What is your idea of a fun activity?

Thanks! We do love scenery and will keep Salzburg in mind. For example, a water park, hikes, boat trips etc.
