Vienna train stations

Hoping someone out there can help straighten this out. I need to take a train from Vienna to Budapest on May 13, sometime after 11:30am. On the OBB site, it shows the trains depart from Wien-Mitte. On the RailEurope site, the same train numbers show that they depart from Westbahnhof. The ticket I may want to purchase is not available to purchase on line. Currently, I will arrive Westbahnhof by shuttle from Cesky Krumlov @ 11:30am & would prefer to arrive at the correct station. I am hoping, if possible, to catch the 11:47 train, so it's a tight connection especially if I'm at the wrong station. I can change my drop off with the shuttle to Wien-Mitte if that's the correct station, but must do that in advance.
Thanks in advance to all who respond,
Gail

There are many trains. Most of them leave from Hauptbahnhof. Some of them start in Westbahnhof then go via Wien Meidling and Wien Hauptbahnhof. I checked Deutsche Bahn website. According to them there is no train leaving to Budapest at 11:47 on May 13th. But as I said. There are many trains. The best bet would be Hauptbahnhof. It's completely new station built on the spot where former Suedbahnhof was. I did not see any train to Budapest going via Wien Mitte and stopping there.

Trains to Budapest do not go through Wien Mitte. In fact no international trains pass through Wien Mitte.

My guess is that you selected Vienna City Center, instead of just Vienna. I bet if you look at the details of the search you did, the routing will have you taking the U3 from Wien Mitte to Westbahnhof to catch the train to Budapest.

My suggestion - Just type in Vienna and Budapest on the oebb site, as I have just done. You will see that there is an 11:48 train direct from Westbahnhof to Budapest with no changes.

I figured that others have had this question so I searched, found this thread and it has been quite helpful. I have a question I would like to add to this discussion about the Vienna to Budapest train service & schedule.

We will be in Vienna from April 30th, leaving on May 5th for Budapest (Keleti station) and thought we would like to leave around 12 PM.

Following the instructions here:

I went to the OBB site and after putting in the search, looking at the options felt the Railjet High Speed option was what we wanted to take - there are 4 of us.

That site had a train leaving at 12:12, taking 2 hours 37 minutes for 29.2 Euro, direct with 0 changes and departing from Hauptbahnhof.

Then I went to the RailEurope site and received the same information as Emily did above, 11:48 AM, taking 3 hours and 1 minute for $60 for 2nd class, leaving from Westbanhof, and it is Railjet 61.

My questions are: are they the same train, is this correct information with such different cost or am I missing something right in front of me (won't be the 1st time !) and can I wait until in Vienna and buy the tickets a day or two in advance?

Thanks / Gene

You should really start a new thread rather than tagging on to an old one. Yes they are the same train stopping at three different Vienna stations.

Thanks Ray, that was very helpful.

I agree with having time to check it (dry run) out as that is what we did when traveling to Amsterdam to Brussels last year and from Bari to Matera in Puglia 2 years ago and all our other European trips.

I just didn't know how the Austrian Rail system work or any if there were any issues with those dates should cause one to purchase ahead of time.

I apologize for opening an old posting.

Thanks again / Gene

@ Gene...To find out about the connections from Vienna to Budapest, look at German Rail (DB) if you don't care about the fare. You'll see the schedule for departure, duration of the ride. To find out about fares as well as departure times and the type of train (RJ, EC, IC) then look at OeBB (Austrian Railways). Pretty straight forward going from Vienna to BP, I've always boarded at Wien Westbahnhof ( like last May 2014) and arrived at BP Keleti pu. I take either one of the early trains from Westbahnhof, gets me in at Keleti at 11:49 or 12:49, as long as it is prior to 13:00...fine.
