My boyfriend and I are looking to take a train from Vienna to Venice in mid April. I've looked on the OBB website, but am finding it confusing. I tried to select the 06:25 - 14:00 train for 29 euros per ticket, however when I go to enter two tickets, it costs 118 euros instead of 60 euros (29 euros x 2). Can anyone let me know why that is?
Also - this route looks like it requires two transfers. Is there a direct train at all from Vienna to Venice?

They might not have had more than one seat available at that price and probably can't mix fares in the same request. When I check April 20 as a test, I get a fare of 90 euros per person, whether for one or for two. These tickets have been on sale for at least a month already. Other departures on that date still have discounts available.
I looked at flying, but the flights on the date (April 11) are over $200 per person for a direct flight.
Thanks for looking into that Laura. Do you think if we booked two tickets separately, it would be okay? We would ideally like to sit together, although it doesn't look like there is assigned seating.
Try again right now, if you can. I just tested your April 11 date at http://www.oebb.at/en/ and was offered a total of 58 euros for two adults. The longest leg of the trip should include a seat reservation.
Hey Laura - I booked two tickets on the 07:30 - 16:55 route through Salzburg/Villach. The price was 86 euros for 2 tickets plus 20 euros for first class and 6 euros for seats reservations, for a total of 112 euros. When I went to pay, my total switched to 74 euros and my tickets are only showing Vienna to Villach! The booking shows this:
Wien Hbf --> Venezia Santa Lucia
Passengers 2 × adult
1st class with reservation for Wien Hbf --> Villach Hbf
Day of travel 12. Apr 2016
But the PDF tickets I got only show Wien to Villach, nothing about ending up in Venice. Is this normal or how do I get from Villach to Venice?
