Vienna to Munich by train

Hi
My wife and I are planning a Munich - Salzburg - Vienna - Munich trip. Could anyone let me know if the eurail pass works on this route especially the Vienna - Munich sector? My online search shows that there appears to be no direct train from Vienna to Munich. One has to change trains at Salzburg. Also there is a Flixtrain on Vienna - Salzburg which doesn't accept the Europass.
Thanks in advance

Have you consulted the train planners of the Bahn or the OEBB? They show direct Vienna to Munich trains.
Have also a look at the easy to use Trainline.eu to see whether a rail pass is the best option for your trip. Bought in advance Vienna to Munich doesn't have to be more expensive than EUR 19,90 per person. The other connections have comparable prices for advance-bought tickets. And please realise that there is no need for 1st class: 2nd class is pretty comfortable on these trains.

PLease, please, please do not buy a hugely expensive Eurail pass for such cheap trips. Also, please, please, please do not use Rail Europe for any schedule information. They are a tourist agency and not the official source of information.

Munich to Vienna can be purchased from bahn.de for 29 Euro. There are of course direct trains. Vienna to Munich can be purchased on oebb.at, the official rail carrier of Austria. These tickets are also 29 Euro. You always buy your tickets from the national rail carrier of the country where the travel originates. In addition, Westbahn is a private train service which offers travel between Salzburg and Vienna. You buy these tickets on the train for very cheap. Visit their website for the full information. Again, buying a pass will cost you likely 3 times the cost of what you should pay.

I don't know for when this trip is planned, but if it is too far out, tickets are not available yet. I always buy them some two months in advance.

Thanks again. We still have some time to go and are still planning. Your replies are so helpful. I have more or less decided against the eurail pass.

Yes, Super Sparpreis Tickets for 2 adults is 39.80 EUR total bought from Deutsche Bahn. These tickets have to be bought well in advance and are totally nonrefundable and do not include the City Ticket for onward transport on the Munich transit system. That is a direct RailJet.
