I have attempted to secure train tickets from both the OBB site as well as mavcsoport on December 12th. Tickets are available up through December 10th. I've secured train tickets for the rest of our trip with no problem except for this leg. Am I missing something? Too early?

The European train timetables are reset— mostly with minor changes— at midnight on the second Saturdays in June and December. This year the December reset date falls on December 10. Because most train operators will not sell tickets beyond the reset dates, the ticket websites simply say that tix are unavailable.
Wait 2 weeks and try. There is nothing to worry about. Plenty of trains, plenty of seats even if you buy the night before. But I get it,
I like to have all that stuff done early too.

At the moment all train schedules after December 10th are tentative. Although it is expected that there will be minor changes only, you have just to wait until online booking will work beyond this date.
