Advice and info. needed- I will be traveling from Vienna to Brasov and then to Bran Castle.
Is there an overnight train? travel time?
how much time should I allow? Is one overnight enough? In all likelihood, I will be returning to Vienna.
Any travel tips for visiting the Castle and Brasov, including hotels, restaurants would be much appreciated, as this is my first trip to Romania.
Thank you!
I have been to Vienna and Bran and Brazov and an awful lot of the territory in-between on a number of trips. I hate to say this; but if the two end points are all that interest you, then you really ought to fly Vienna to Bucharest or you will loose two days of your vacation to boring, slow, miserable train travel. Now if you are under 25 and love adventure, then okay do it ............ I guess. I would start my planning here http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml?dbkanal_034=1&dbkanal_001=L16_S02_D001_KSE0001_AdwInt_USA_LZ01&s_kwcid=AL!198!3!62226342324!b!!g!!db%20bahn%20train&ef_id=VHCz9wAAAZYa5wvH:20141122173141:s
An excellent guide in Romania is Daniel G. http://covinnus.com/ He can arrange what ever you want to do. He has even been known to pick guest up in Budapest.
By the way, Romania is definitely worth the effort. Especially the region you are going to (Transylvania). You do know that Vlad at best spent one night in that castle don't you? The town with a significant connection to Vlad is Sighișoara. Not only is this one of the best preserved medieval citadels in Europe its the birth place of Vlad. I could spend a week there and not get bored.
Thank you, to those who responded, for the advice and help!
Transylvania is wonderful, so do make the trip.
Hi,
True, Translyvania is a very interesting place historically, especially Brasov, I would suggest planning the train rides carefully,
