Does anyone know the current price for one person to take a taxi from the airport to the city center late at night, say 23:30? Do I need cash or will a card work? I will be traveling in November.
Thanks!
Try this estimator: http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=Vienna-Austria&lang=en
Looks like in the 30 to 40 euro range depending on your start point. Just use cash and you'll be safe.
I always pre-book my taxi from Red Cab, a very nice and reliable service. www.red-cab.at. You pay online when you book the taxi, so no need to pay the driver anything or worry about whether or not he takes a credit card. Their rate is 32 Euro, which is also going to be cheaper than a taxi taken from the taxi stand at the airport. If you do take a taxi from the taxi stand, expect to pay about 45-50 Euro.
We had the hotel arrange a car which came out to about 35 Euro which was less than the estimate I got on the taxi estimator. I usually just hop on the taxi queue when traveling but had read some negative things about taxis in Prague, Petersburg etc and so on this trip I arranged cars in Vienna, Prague and Petersburg (just used the queue in Paris as usual) It went very smoothly with no surprises.
I took a taxi from right outside the Ring to the Vienna airport at 5:30am. The standard rate right now is 36 euros.
I took a taxi from the museums quarter last Monday and paid 33 Euro for my wife and I.
Mike
jr,
I travelled in the opposite direction from Vienna to the airport a few weeks and the fare was about €35, although I gave the driver a tip since the trip took place at about 05:00. I haven't checked but I assume that the fare structure for cabs changes at night.
With an earlier arrival time, you could take the CAT which will be much cheaper, but I believe the last trip departs from the airport at 23:36.
With regards to the CAT, it is not a bargain, especially if you are two or more and you are not staying near Landstrasse Mitte. The S7 train is the bargain.
