Vienna: S7 S Bahn from airport to Wien Mitte Bahnhof and U3 to Westbahnhof

Hello. I have the Rick Steves Vienna/Salzburg book and I would appreciate any clarification.

We plan on taking the S7 from the airport since it is less expensive than the CAT train. Our accommodation is near Westbahnhof. I understand that we need to go to Wien-Mitte Bahnhof first and then transfer to the U-3 Orange to Westbahnhof.

  1. When we take the S7, are we looking for it marked "Floridsdorf" or "Wien-Mitte Bahnhof"
  2. In the book, it says Wien Mitte Bahnhof station is called "Landstrasse"
  3. If we purchase a transit pass for 7 days, do we still need to buy a (2.10) single ticket to cover between airport and limits of inner zone?

What would I be looking for when taking the S7?
Thank you! We leave next week and this would help us out when we land!

Hi,

Cannot help on the exact questions but the U6 and U3 both stop at Westbahnhof.

Yes your route and method is correct. You will take the S7 and get off at Wien Mitte (Landstrasse) station. You do need the extra ticket from the airport to Wien Mitte as it is in a different zone. Make sure to validate yoy ticket and your pass! The S7's final destination is Floridsdorf so no worries, just get off at Wien Mitte. You can buy your tickets at tne airport, including the pass, from the machines there...easy to use and in English. So validate your ticket for the S7 before you board, and then validate the pass before catching the U3. Where do you stay?

It's pretty clear which is the S7 train and it says Floridsdorf. It runs every half hour. It will have both Wien Mitte and Landstrasse. At the airport follow signs down to the train station. There are a few machines to buy a ticket. You can get your week pass there. Beware that week passes start on Monday - it is not 7 days from when you buy it. Depending on when you arrive - you might need to purchase another type of pass. You will also need to buy a add on ticket ( I think it's 2.20 now). You select National Destinations and then from Airport to Schwechat border (might be Vienna border from that direction).
