Vienna-Small Hotel recommendation?

Hi, we plan to be in Vienna in early April, and are looking for small, moderate hotel recommendations. Should be in walking/metro distance of sights. Two adults--no kids! Thank you in advance for your suggestions! Karen

We recently stayed 5 nights at the lovely Hotel Austria. Well appointed rooms, quiet location, delicious generous breakfast buffet and helpful staff. It was walking distance to major sights and convenient to public transportation. Would gladly stay there again! Two favorite restaurants: Luceck and Da Capo. Both in walking distance. hotelaustria-wein.at

I loved the Hotel Am Stephansplatz, directly across from the church and plenty to see in that area, and just steps from the U. Large, well-appointed room, very quiet, and an excellent vreakfast.

Karen,

I would also highly recommend Hotel Pension Suzanne. It's a very comfortable hotel in a great location. They serve a nice breakfast and there are lots of restaurants within walking distance. As I recall, some of the bus tours depart either from the Opera House or from just in front of the hotel.

Emily, I will be in Vienna April 2-7. Would like a moderately priced hotel, nothing fancy, but do value location, good hosts, and cleanliness!

Another vote for Pension Suzanne. Lovely place on a quietist street but very convenient for the sights.

I plugged in your dates and searched on Booking.com. Perhaps you want to stay somewhere not full of Americans toting their RS books? Also notable that your dates coincide with Easter break, so rooms are priced high.

A few stood out to me:

Das Tyrol - off of Mariahilfer Straße, the main shopping street and walkable to the center in about 10 minutes (faster by Ubahn). The original boutique hotel in Vienna.

Spiess and Spiess - Great location in a quiet street adjacent to my market, Rochusmarkt. A subway stop is just there taking you to Stephansplatz in 5 minutes. But you might just be happy wandering that neighborhood (Landstraße down to Wien Mitte) as it is very popular at the moment.

Das Triest - Just underwent a major renovation and looks great. Best area for food in all of Vienna as the Naschmarkt and Schleifmuhlgasse are right there. Vollpension is not to be missed. Center is ten minutes by foot or 5 by streetcar.

Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design - another great location. Constant favorite of the destination experts on Trip Advisor. Great boutique hotel.

We just got back from our Vienna/Salzburg/Hallstatt trip. I can't say enough good things about the Austria Trend Hotel Astoria. https://hotel-astoria-vienna.h-rsv.com/. This is a smaller and older hotel in the Innere Stadt district.

Wonderful location with the Opera House in one direction, Stephensplatz in another direction all accessible with an easy stroll. We had a beautiful room and the breakfast is amazing. Huge spread of fruits, meats, pastries, eggs, bacon and four huge loaves of fresh homemade bread every morning. Everything we seemed to want or need was within walking distance.

We had to circle back around to Vienna to fly out on the last day of our trip and we stayed at a big box hotel chain (Hilton) just for the convenience. Blech. We all agreed if we had stayed there the whole first part of the week we were sure we would not have enjoyed our stay as much.

I'll second the recommendation for Hotel Das Tyrol. We stayed there for a week in September and the service and location are excellent. The hotel has a pop-art theme that is a bit over the top yet quite cool actually.

I loved the Hotel Am Stephansplatz. The breakfast room is on the 2nd or 3rd floor, right across from the Cathedral, with big, open windows. At night, this room serves as a bar, so you can sip wine and people watch.
Safe travels!
