Has anyone used the Vienna Pass and is it worth it? Or just stick to Rick Steve’s combo-ticket suggestions? Two of us will be in Vienna for 3 1/2 days, planning on Rick’s most recommended sights.
It's difficult to answer this question. It is tedious, but you should do the math: how many sights you will visit, how much saves you the Vienna Pass, will it be worth then, not to forget costs of public transport.
We were there in April for three days and thought the three-day pass was worth the money. Included is the Hop-on-hop-off bus, which was a welcome relief for tired feet, boat rides, and many museums [not the Opera House .] It allowed us the luxury of going into a museum/site and just focusing on one section, not having to debate if the museum price was worth only a short visit, [eg seeing the Venus, or the Spanish Riding School practices.] Keep in mind the Pass is for consecutive days, and some museums are closed on certain days; we also liked the flexibility to change our itinerary. At the Schonbrunner Summer Palace, [I'd recommend going to both palaces,] the Pass included using the tram around the huge grounds, and along with entrance to the gardens. IT WORKED WELL FOR US.
