Vienna or Salzburg

Going to Budapest, then Vienna or Salzburg, then Prague. Any recommendations between Vienna or Salzburg? Thank you.

Vienna is closer to Budapest and Prague, as you probably already know, so it would be easier to include in your itinerary.

Beyond that, it depends on what you like. Vienna is a bigger city with many famous sites and more to do in the city itself. Salzburg is smaller, and if you're interested in excursions into the countryside there are all sorts of places you can go within an hour or so. I enjoyed them both in different ways.

We fell in love with Vienna - a beautiful city.

How many nights will you have? What do you enjoy?

There is a variety of things to do in Vienna from the palace to the museums to the many musical events - the boys choir is amazing.

Since you are already doing two large cities, I would suggest Salzburg over Vienna to give yourself a break. I would additionally suggest staying in the Wolfgangsee area (St. Gilgen or St. Wolfgang) and then make a day trip into Salzburg. Lakes, mountains, fresh air - you get the idea.

Hi,

If you want something grand, splendid, etc choose Vienna. If you want something more provincial, still very attractive, scenic, and small, then choose Salzburg. Between the two only, for historical and cultural purposes, I would pick Vienna. If you're into Mozart, you have to visit both....Mozart houses/museums in both Vienna and Salzburg.

I have been to Prague, Vienna and Salzburg. Between Vienna and Salzburg, hands down I would go to Vienna! Salzburg is a lovely city with much to see and do but Vienna was a wonderful charming city with even more to see and do! There are classical concerts, operas, museums, churches, palaces, Klimt paintings, cafes, shopping, with excellent tram and subway system. I spent 4 extra days after the GAS tour and it was not enough time and I can't wait to go back!

I went to Hofburg Palace's jewel-filled Treasury and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, home of the Habsburg art collection and to St Stephens's Cathedral and the Belevedere Palace where I spent most of the day there in the palace and gardens. I also went to the horse show to see the horses perform. Demel is a wonderful cafe for deserts!

I was super disppointed I did not get to the Schönbrunn Palace but I ran out of time! PM me if you need more information.

Have a great time, you are going to the jewls of cities.
