Vienna or Munich for new years eve?

Hi,

We are going on a 6 nights holiday travel welcoming 2018. Our entry destination is Vienna, Austria and we will arrive there on the 28th Dec noontime. I'm traveling with my husband and teenage daughter and it will be our first time visiting Austria. Though we already have booked our hotel accommodation in Vienna. We would like to visit Salzburg and go to Munch as well. Can anyone suggest a best DIY travel itinerary for us? With our dates Dec 28-Jan3. Our flight going out of Vienna is on Jan 3rd night time. We are also not sure where is it more fun for a family to welcome 2018. Vienna, Salzburg or Munich? As much as I want to visit Garmisch too, I don't think our time will permit.

Thank you in advance.

While all of these places are wonderful , I would skip Munich , especially since your hotel is already booked . Munich is four hours each way from Vienna , so as a day trip it is realistically eight hours of travel time . Garmisch , is even crazier . You might be able to shoehorn in a day in Salzburg ( two hours each way ) but you should stay in Vienna . Given the myriad choices of things to see and do there , you should start by familiarizing yourself with what is on offer that suits your tastes . A Rick guidebook would be a great help , and this website is also a good start -https://www.wien.info/en
