We Have 2 full days in Vienna mid week in September. We are not huge opera fans and do not want to devote an entire evening to the opera but would like to do the tour during the day. Is it possible to get tickets for tour ahead of time, or do we need to stand in line the day of the tour? Also are the outdoor Opera screenings going on in September? Any advice on those screenings would be appreciated. Thank you.
If you look on the opera house website www.wiener-staatsoper.at they have the listing of what operas they will be showing on the outdoor screen in September (subject to change of course). Look under the News - Staatsoper outdoors. I enjoyed the outdoor show so much I went twice. But people just come and go at will so if are bored after 5 minutes you can leave. The screen only has subtitles in German so if you are really wanting to know what they say, you'll have to buy a ticket inside where you can get full translations.
I couldn't find anywhere on the website where you were able to buy tour tickets early so I'm not sure if that's possible. When I went, there were tons of people (I don't recall what day of the week I went).
I saw the tour schedule on the website but just for June (limited to mostly afternoons on performance days), July & August when they are not performing.

Oooops, sorry, wrong opera house....... never mind.
LOL James! Not only wrong opera house, wrong forum. Do you work for the Hungarian Tourism Board ;-)
I remind myself of all the great things in life that I would have missed if someone hadn't recommended something that had never crossed my mind. And YES, no, not really. But it would be a great job! Thanks for the idea.
You're hired!
:-)
Actually ask me the right question and its even more fun
