Vienna - NYE with kids?

Some friends are thinking of doing the Sivesterpfad trail around the city with teens and wondering if they can just wing it with finding something to eat for dinner along the way rather than try to get restaurant reservations somewhere at this point. They will be staying with friends.

They were also thinking of going somewhere in the hills (driving if need be) to see fireworks - any location suggestions would be appreciated!

If anyone has other ideas or suggestions for this attempt to do a low key new years eve in Vienna (haha!) please share :)

Thanks!

The Silvesterpfad runs from 2pm to 2am and is fully outdoors. It depends on the weather, especially on the temperature and the wind, and your stamina how long you are able to attend. If you want to see the fireworks at midnight it is probably the best not to start early.

This year's programme has not been revealed up until now.

Yes, there will be food along the Silversterpfad, probably sausages, so I think they can wing it. Please note that things can get a bit crazy around midnight in the center with people shooting fireworks into crowds and people throwing glass bottles. The crowds can be huge as well. Best to talk to your teens about being safe - I have never let my teen go to the center around midnight, but that's me. The earlier the better, for sure.

Rooftops are the best places to see the fireworks, so maybe you can find a spot at a hotel. Otherwise, look at Wilhelminenberg or Cobenzl (both reachable by bus, car would be a real nuisance). You will be sitting out in the cold, though.

"...with teens"

13 -14 yr old and 18-19 yr old are not the same situation.

Folks likely can provide more useful suggestions with better info.
