Vienna night photo tour

Are you using a phone or a camera? The best thing you can do is to familiarize yourself with the technology of the device itself . I use a mirrorless DSLR and always carry the owners manual along ( ninety pages in a small format paper book ) Since cameras are essentially picture taking computers , the capabilities are endless , and trying to recall all the myriad settings is a Sisyphean feat . Since I don't use a phone for my pictures , I can only assume that the phone technology is available as well

Take the tour if you feel more comfortable being out at night as a solo woman with a camera. As far as learning outcomes, I doubt a single 3-hour session will help much, but being with a group of like-minded people would probably be fun. IMO, you will learn and retain more by watching some YouTube videos and practicing at home before leaving. Completely your call.

As for gear, don't worry about it initially. Your phone is fine if that's all you have. Learning to 'see' is infinitely more important than knowing which flavor of RAW you should use. Don't let your groupmates with mirrorless or DSLR (it's either/or) and the humongous f/95 'night' lens intimidate you. I bet you pressing the button on a Fuji Instax camera at the right moment while your compatriot flips through a manual will yield a more memorable photo. Thanks for the feedback. I'll be bringing an OM-5 mirrorless with my 14-42mm and my 14-150mm lenses. If I have room, I'll pack a wider-angle lens too. They provide a tripod, so I don't need to bring one of mine. I won't be using my phone for photos.

I minored in photography many years ago, before digital, and I've been a pretty avid amateur since. I like photo tours and I'm hoping this will be a good one.

Evidently you are very well equipped and well conversant in technique , Getting great shots won't be difficult for you . I think the only issue is the locations for your shots . The sample pictures on the tour website are easy to locate and I don't think you need that tour to do a great job . If you want the locations , I can itemize them for you .

I would love recommendations for places to shoot. But please don't go to the trouble of itemizing them. I like the camaraderie of others, so I may still arrange for the tour.

Vienna is completely safe at night. You know how to use a camera. The sights are easy to locate. Perhaps look at my instagram for inspiration of some less popular sites - @3point14maker

I'm fairly certain you'll pass by the Votivkirche (Votive Church) during your stay in Vienna, and you'll likely do so in the daytime.

But suspended outside at the top of the church is a "figure 8" loop, which is also lit up at night with a dynamic display at the top of every hour. I've just written about this which includes a short video; see my profile or please direct-message me for a link.

Billi Thanner's sculpture, "Infinity of Light", will remain at the Votive Church until May 2027.

We did a nighttime photography tour in Rome and while it was fun I wouldn't say we learned very much from it.
