This yearly event , currently televised on PBS stations in The USA , is always spectacular . This year , hosted by Hugh Bonneville , of Downton Abbey fame , is particularly good . The great music ( largely by the Strauss family ) is liberally peppered with magnificent cinematography and historical tidbits . Seek it out , you will be charmed , and it has a far lower calorie content than the nearest konditorei !

Yes, I remember in the days of yesteryear it was Willi Boskovsky as the conductor for the New Year's Eve concert....a real master of the craft.
