We will be in Vienna for a week in December. We want to go to the Kunsthistorisches to see the Rembrandt exhibit as well as the rest of the museum. When I look online it isn’t clear to me if the ticket for the Rembrandt exhibit includes entrance to the museum. I assume it does, but would rather be sure. Also we want to go to the Albertina, Leopold and Schonbrunn palace. Maybe a few others. Anyone use the Vienna Pass and if so would you recommend it? Do I still have to reserve time slots (for Rembrandt) with the pass? Thanks for any insights
I may be missing something on the Kunsthistorisches Museum website, but I don't see a separate ticket for the Rembrandt exhibition, just a ticket for a tour of that exhibition. It seems the regular Kunsthistorisches ticket covers everything under the roof of the museum, unless you want some sort of tour. I also don't see any indication Kunsthistorisches tickets are timed.
I didn't buy the Vienna Pass; I did get the Kunsthistorisches + Imperial Treasury (Kaiserliche Schatzkammer) ticket and at least one other combo ticket. There are quite a few such deals available for various combinations of Vienna museums and other sites; they'll usually save you a few euros if you go to all the covered sights. You really need to research entry prices for each place you want to go, check the "Ticket" section of each website to see what combos might be available, and do some math to figure out the best/most economical way to fit the pieces together. Keep in mind that a combo ticket can quickly become a bad deal if you don't go to all the places you hope to see. You probably will stop for some sort of lunch each day, and I saw significant lines for the most famous cafes--though perhaps things will be different in December; my visit was in July.
If a combo ticket includes one or more places near the bottom of my priority list, I tend to be cautious about that purchase. Missing one sight is likely to swamp the anticipated savings. I enjoy architecture in the form of aimless wandering. Despite 17 days in Vienna and a heavy focus on art museums, I missed at least two I would have liked to see. I also skipped the Schonbrunn.
In terms of combo tickets, the Sisi ticket gives you admission to these sites at a discount:
Imperial attractions on 1 ticket: Schönbrunn Palace + Sisi Museum plus the Imperial Apartments in the Vienna Hofburg + the Vienna Furniture Museum
Thanks acraven, I looked a bit more and it seems the Rembrandt needs a timed entry but no extra cost which is great. I will look into some of the combo tickets to see if they work.
Thanks markcw, I will look into the combo options.
