is it advisable to book tickets ahead for the Schoenbrunn or Hofburg Apartments in order to beat the lines at ticket booth.
also is it worth doing the tours of these places that you can book through Trip advisor or other booking sights??
Joan, we were at rhe Schönbrunn Palace yesterday. We purchased our tickets online for the Grand Tour. In addition to the tour we visited the beautiful gardens. We took the U4 Metro from Stephensplatz to Schónbrunn stop. After getting off the train it was a 10 min. walk to the Palace. www.schoenbrunn.at
On another subject, if you enjoy art we loved the Albertina Museum. We also purchased tickets online. www.albertina.at We visited the Kunsthistorisches Museum today. We thought it was probably the most beautiful museum we've ever seen. We really wanted to see the upcoming Caravaggio & Bernini exhibit. Unfortunately it does not start until Oct. 15. We arrived midmorning and purchased our tickets.
Schönbrunn - Yes, book ahead
Hofburg - no need to book ahead
Both locations have audio tours which are fine. I see absolutely no need to pay for a guide.
On the post above, it is worth noting that the U4 does not go to Stephansplatz, so those instructions are incorrect.
@Emily, prior to September 2 the U4 was out of commission due to construction work. We definately took the U4 from Stephensplatz station to Schoenbrunn and back to Stephensplatz this past Monday. It is our understanding per an employee at the station and our hotel that it is now in service. Have you heard something different? BTW we are enjoying our stay here. Thank you for all your tips before we arrived.
Edit** Did I mean Schwedenplatz?? Thanks. 😊
Yes, you mean Schwedenplatz. The U4 has NEVER gone to Stephansplatz. Trust a local.
Thanks Emily! My confusion on the "similar" names. Appreciate it. Have a great day.
