We will be in Vienna for five days at the end of September 2022, and we are looking for comments and suggestions about the primary sights in Vienna, and whether the Vienna Museum Pass is a good value. I can't imagine that we would have the energy to visit all of the sights covered by the pass, but once we identify the "must see" museums and other primary places, I can tally up the individual costs and make a judgment about whether it is worth it.
Thank you for any information that you can offer.
In 2015, the 6-Day Vienna Pass was perfect for us. Back then, you didn't need to book ahead for anything - I don't know if this is still the case. A Hop on/Hop off bus was included for every day the Pass was in effect, so we used that a few times. We went to the Schonbrunn on the next-to-the last day of a 17 day trip, and were "palaced out". But we very much enjoyed the grounds and the zoo.
I liked the Pass because we could visit a number of museums, but not spend a lot of time. For example, we just ran in quickly to see the 30,000 yr old Venus of Willendo; I wouldn't have paid full admission to see one item. Not that the other items weren't worthy, but our time was so limited. We were able to see the Lipizzaner stallions practice, visit The Kiss, and see the Imperial Treasury. Didn't have time for the boat ride. Again, quick visits aren't ideal, but one gets an idea for priorities for return visits.(And note, The Opera House isn't included in this Pass, but it is worthy of a tour). The Hop on-Hop off bus was convenient it for us, and I disagree with RS, the Schonbrunn Summer Palace should be a priority. Check which days your designated sites are closed, to make sure you won't miss them on your visit days.
Have a wonderful time in this spectacular city .
I did not get the pass when I was in Vienna in 2015, but I was only in the city for 2 days.
On sites, I strongly recommend Belvidere Palace and Haus der Musik, if the pass covers both of them.
I saw a performance at the Wien Statsoper. I doubt that's covered as part of the museum pass, but if it is, I recommend this, too, whether you love of hate opera. Though I love orchestral music, I never got into opera. How many times will I be able to go to the opera in Vienna, I thought. So I saw the opera and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Enjoy beautiful Vienna.
Thank you, Estimated Prophet, Pat, and Craig, for your comments and suggestions.
I appreciate your input very much.
I can see that the Vienna Pass has many benefits.
Best regards and thank you again!
We were in Vienna this past May 2022 and we got a 2 day Vienna Pass. It offers plenty of museums and other attractions. We especially enjoyed our day at Schönbrunn Palace where the Pass gave us access to the Palace, the Zoo, the Carriage Museum, the Train, and the Schnitzel class. However, we did secure a timed entry to the palace on the day before our palace visit. Our family of 5 (parents and 3 young adult sons) found early on in our trip that museums were not the favorite use of our time, so we only did the Sisi Museum and Crown Jewel museum, but so many more are included in the pass. We used the Sightseer Bus that comes with the pass as our main transportation, with a central hub at the Vienna Opera House. The only item that did not work for us (while listed as included) was a tour of the Vienna Opera House. Apparently they could not accommodate the many tourists who presented the Vienna Pass or else we should have secured a timed entry for this as well. Overall it was a good value in our opinion. Hope y'all have a great time! I did post in the Trip Report section of this forum "Two Weeks in Austria with our Family of 5".
