My family (7 adults) will be spending the Christmas holidays in Vienna or Ljubljana. We'll stay Christmas and a couple of days before and after in one city and then several more days in the other. Would you recommend Christmas in Vienna or in Ljubljana?
Steve
1 I spent a few days before Christmas some years back and it was okay.
2 The quality of the Christmas market products was a bit disappointing compared to the other city's market I go to ever few years; but it was well done.
3 I have never been to the one in Ljubljana, but you made me curious and I loved what I saw (here is one google hit I got: https://strangersinthelivingroom.com/8426/why-ljubljana-might-have-europes-best-christmas-market/ )
4 I think there is a good chance that the Ljubljana experience might be more "real" less touristy and for my taste more enjoyable.
5 But again, I haven't actually been there and Vienna is very, very okay at Christmas.
6 I bet you get lots of good recommendations very soon; hopefully some from people who have actually been to both.
I think Ljubljana would be wonderful, but I just adore that city. And the surrounding area is so spectacular. Much less touristy than Vienna. More affordable, too.
If you will have a car, consider hopping over to Zagreb for their market. It’s been voted the best a Europe in few times. It’s a very short drive.
