Vienna - is it worth 1/2 day?

We travel from Barcelona to home via Vienna. Currently we arrive Vienna at 11pm at night. For $335 we could move a ticket to accommodate getting there around 1pm. By the time we go through customs, etc., does it make sense to pay the money? We have 3 children with us. By the time we check in the hotel, etc. does it give us enough time to make this valuable? What would you do with this amount of time?

It would be worth it to me just to arrive at a decent hour. If you arrive at 11 pm, you won't be in bed until 1 am. Sounds gross with 3 kids. As an aside, when you arrive from BCN to VIE, you'll just walk out, no customs (unless you are declaring items) or immigration. If you arrive at 1 PM, you'll be ready to see some sights by 3 PM. Where are you staying? At the very least you can walk around the first district and have a nice dinner.

I believe OP is traveling to Chicago via Vienna from Barcelona. correct?

You would not have to clear customs in Vienna so getting through the airport should be a little faster.

How old are the children? If younger than an earlier flight might be easier.

I am assuming you had already planned to stay the night in an airport hotel?

Are you continuing on the next day? what time?

If that is the case you would have tome to drop your belongings and go into Vienna for a nice walk about the city and some great hearty food. If $335 isn't a bank buster I'd do it.

Not sure how your kids will deal with the timing issues, but an extra half-day in Barcelona sounds less stressful to me. In Vienna, kids would probably like the Hofburg Palace, which closes about 6:00 p.m. (last entry around 4:30, some parts not open Tuesday and/or Monday). Demel is open for coffee and cake until 7:00 p.m.
