We will be in Vienna this July with children and grandparents. We are deciding on whether we should stay at the Marriott Vienna on the Ringstrasse or the Imperial Riding School Hotel. We are looking at staying at Marriott because of our hotel points for the stay. Is there a benefit to staying on the Ringstrasse versus slightly off the main area at the Imperial Riding School? My preference would not to be in the direct tourist area but also not too far off that it becomes inconvenient, especially with the older and younger people in our group.
Thank you
The Marriott is preferable, I think, because it’s next to one of Vienna’s most beautiful parks and also handy to cafes and shops. It’s on the edge of the Inner Ring, which is not overrun with tourists as the area around St. Stephen’s Cathedral is. The other hotel is quite a walk from the Inner Ring attractions, which is not as convenient.
I would stay at the Marriott for the convenience of the Ringstrasse as thats where a huge chunk of the attractions are. Just easier to be close with a group like yours. I'm not sure how many tourists will be at the front door of the hotel, but its July so things in the Ringstrasse will be "busy".
I'm not sure how many tourists will be at the front door of the hotel, ...
Not so many, just guests of the hotel. There are not so much things to see in this section of the Ring which tourists are interested in.
In fact, the Marriott building is one of the ugliest along the Ring, regarding architecture. The Ring boulevard, being longer than the Champs Élysées in Paris, by the way, gets its appeal from the fact that all buildings date from the period between 1860 and 1910, with a few exceptions. There are only five buildings which have been built in the second half of the 20th century, all of them somewhat hurt in the eye.
Not absolutely terrible https://maps.app.goo.gl/8SSExsyMsQjKKvJMA
This is a typical example of architecture that is neither aesthetic nor considerate of the style of the neighboring buildings.
It was part of the infamous "Vienna Ugly" tour.

Hey, it looks Secessionist to me. Nothing like the Flak Tower on the Terrible Tour.
