My sister and I will be in Vienna in June and I am looking for recommendations for a good and not too touristy Heuriger and advice on the best way to get there. Also, has anyone had any experience with the Vienna Heurigen Express?
This is the response I got when I asked last year:
We went to two while we where in Vienna last May. Both were great, but this was our favorite of the two: http://www.schuebel-auer.at/ (it's one of Rick's recommendations). Seemed like mostly locals, and they had live music even on the weeknight we were there.
One of our favorites was Fuhrgassl-Huber in Neustift am Walde.
We also went to Schubel-Auer Heuriger a couple of years ago. It was all locals as best we could tell. Easy to get to, taking Tram #D to its last stop, and about a 5 min walk from there. It was quite full shortly after 6PM on a Saturday night, so you may want to plan an earlier dinner. They did have a lot of outdoor tables. Food was good, not great, but an interesting non- touristy setting and experience nonetheless.
