We are a retired couple who will be visiting Austria and Slovenia for 3 weeks in Sept/Oct. Have 6 nights in Vienna before going onto Ljubljana for 4 nights. Have possible day trips planned from Vienna for Melk and Wachau Valley. Also Bratislava. Anyone suggest other possible day trips from Vienna? We plan to take the Bus from Vienna to Ljubljana. It takes about 5 hours (Flixbus). Is this better than train and do they have toilet on bus? etc.

Vienna deserves a minimum of five nights so you can visit the Hofburg Imperial Apartments and Treasury, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Kunsthistorishches Museum, enjoy a night at the Vienna State Opera and Schönbrunn Palace.

I prefer to go by train over a long bus ride where you are confined to your seat.
There is one direct train per day from Vienna to Ljubljana (EC 71, dep. 7:53am) and several other connections having one train change (either in Villach or Graz).
I particularly dislike and avoid Flixbus, because this company can offer so cheap fares only by exploiting their staff and drivers to the max (low salaries, extensive work time).

I take FlixBus often as the rail connections to the south are poor. Yes, there is a toilet on the bus. The bus will also make at least one rest stop. When I use FlixBus I also pay a little extra to reserve the seat next to me for more space. I also reserve the seat at the front of the bus for a better view.

Thanks for your suggestions....I think I will take a look at the train also, as a comparison. I'd rather it be direct though which limits the time I guess.

I’ve taken FlixBus more times than I can remember. Never had a problem.
